Ageing
The body is an amazing thing. Day on day we are bombarded with external hazards such as ultraviolet light, smoke and car exhaust fumes and internally by chemicals called free radicals. Free radicals are highly reactive chemicals that can damage surrounding structures such as cell walls and are also responsible for some of the visible signs of ageing, like wrinkles.
These free radicals can be neutralised by protective compounds called antioxidants found in fruit and vegetables, but as many people struggle to achieve the minimum recommended 5 portions per day they choose to take supplements to ensure a regular intake of micronutrients and to cover any shortfall in the diet.
