We obtain amino acids by digesting proteins in food, which are then absorbed in our gut. Thereafter, they continue their all-important journey to build the specific proteins our body requires.

Amino acids can be L or D isomers – an isomer being the name given to compounds with the same molecular formula, but different structures. The ‘L’ form is required by the body and found in most foods.
