If you’ve done any snooping around the health and wellness corner of the Internet, you’ll have seen the buzzword GMO-free pop up once or twice. A GMO – or genetically modified organism – is an animal, plant, or microorganism whose genetic makeup has been altered in a laboratory utilising transgenic technology or genetic engineering. While some might say there’s a time and a place for GMO produce, we believe quality supplements should be GMO-free, which is why none of our products have been genetically modified.
As a nutritional supplement company, one of the biggest hurdles on the road to producing GMO-free formulas is that it demands a near backbreaking amount of effort to guarantee each and every component qualifies as non-GMO. Some of our products have pretty complex and nuanced formulations – and verifying non-GMO compliance requires herculean scrutiny and analysis. It can be a complex and challenging process. But before you ask – no, we’re not afraid of hard work; we believe creating GMO-free nutritional formulas is worth the blood, sweat and tears.
You could say being non-GMO free is much easier for food manufacturers. Think about it: how many ingredients are there in tortilla crisps compared to those in our comprehensive multivitamins? The difference in intricacy between food and supplements is enormous. Despite this, we’re wholeheartedly committed to finding innovative, GMO-free solutions for our nutritional formulas in the quest for environmental responsibility.
Indeed, we’ve done our utmost to ensure our supplements are fully GMO-free. And we’re especially proud to say our soya-based products – that is, Soya Lecithin Capsules, Soya Isoflavones, Lecithin Granules, and vitamin E soft capsules – are all GMO-free. Alongside cotton, sugar, canola, and beets, soya is one of the five major GMO food crop varieties. GMO soya is thought to have a potentially toxic effect on human health and the environment. Concerns have been raised over GMO soya triggering allergic reactions in individuals who are highly sensitive. And since GMO soya is herbicide-resistant, there’s a well-founded fear about ingesting the herbicides themselves. So, while our soya products may not be the cheapest on the market, it’s merely a reflection of their freshness, quality, and GMO-free soya credentials.
With all this in mind, you might be wondering why you don’t see the words ‘GMO-free’ on our supplement packaging. There’s a simple reason for that. In the EU, every company is legally obliged to advertise if a product contains genetically modified organisms (GMO) or ingredients produced from GMO on their food packaging. And since none of our products do, there’s no need for us to mention this information on ours.
