Ginger is one of 1400 species belonging to the zingiberaceae family (other members include turmeric and cardamom). Ginger is the most popular of the family. It is a rhizome although it is popularly referred to as ‘root ginger’. More than just a spice, ginger is known for its warming properties and it is widely used as a digestive aid.
