Fat Loss and Toning
To lose weight you can either decide to increase your energy output through training, or to reduce your calorie intake – best of all, of course, is to do both. When your energy output exceeds your calorie intake your body starts to burn fat to make up the energy it needs.
A good rule of thumb to remember is that each pound of fat you burn will give you the equivalent of 3,000 calories of energy. So in other words, you need to eat 3,000 calories less than you are burning in order to lose one pound of fat. So if your maintenance level is 2,500 calories per day but you’re only eating 1,500 you will lose a pound of fat in 3 days.
To burn more calories you should introduce plenty of aerobic exercise in to your training regime. But don’t forget the benefits of resistance training. This builds muscles, and the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn because muscle tissue burns up to 30% more calories than fat tissue even when it is at rest.
It’s also important to remember that your body needs plenty of micronutrients such as vitamins, minerals and Omega 3’s if it is to burn fat efficiently, but this requirement may not be fully met if you are eating a restricted diet. That’s when a good multi formula can help, plus a high potency Omega 3 supplement.
Some weight loss diets recommend increased protein intakes. If you are following a diet like this then our Whey Protein Shakes taste great and our Chocolate Protein Bars make a filling snack between meals and the high protein content helps to keep you feeling full for longer.
